Factors about Hair Cutters

As a hairstylist or just a casual haircutter for your family, take good care of your haircutters to keep them the optimum results. Maintain your tools carefully, and keep them tuned and sharpened anytime. Dull cutters can pull hair and of course, cause pain or bring in less perfect results. No matter what type of tool you choose, it is important to care of your haircutters, you should know how to clean, maintain and store them.

Haircutting Scissors

Haircutting scissors are important for those stylists who do longer haircuts. Keep haircutting scissors razor sharp the entire length of the blade. If you notice that you have to favor the front of the blade to get a precise cut, have them sharpened. Clean them often in a solution of one part water and one part vinegar. When you store them, stand them up in a safe place. Do not throw them carelessly on counters; this can cause them to become dull and can even ruin the balance and calibration. Good haircutting scissors can usually perform about 400 haircuts before dulling, so have them sharpened as often as that.

Hair Clippers

Clippers, which are typically used for shorter all-over haircutters, are electronically operated, which means they can go defunct more often. Electrical and mechanical problems can throw a wrench in your haircutting, but you can avoid this by always cleaning the clippers carefully after using them. Remove the attachments and use a small, stiff-bristled brush to clean wayward hair that could cause the clippers to become dull. Lubricate the clippers properly with oil to ensure they function better and make the cutting action smoother. Store your clippers carefully in a case, so they aren't knocked around, and keep all of the attachments with it so that you always have the right length for any haircut.

Thinning Shears

Thinning shears look much like regular scissors, but actually, a small, toothed razor blade is placed inside that allows the haircutter to put down on the hair without cutting all of your hair off. It is helpful for layers or when you are thinning out thick hair, these thinning shears tend to be clogged by small sections of hair. Soak them in a disinfectant solution can help remove small hairs. Sharpen thinning shears every 400 to 500 haircuts. Since thinning shears only do small sections of the cutting, they don't dull as regular scissors. Be carefully and do not drop them on the floor, it will jar them so they don't clamp as tight. Get an apron for personal safety.
